The Department of Business Administration and Tourism and Hospitality Management at Mount Saint Vincent
University (MSVU) invites applications for a tenure-track position in Tourism (Mi’kmaw/Indigenous) at the
Lecturer or Assistant Professor level, with a preferred commencing date of January 1, 2026. Mount Saint Vincent University is located on Canada’s East Coast in Halifax, Nova Scotia.

The successful candidate will teach courses in Tourism and Hospitality Management, including Introduction to Mi’kmaw/Indigenous Tourism. They will also have the opportunity to develop additional Indigenous-focused Tourism courses and to collaborate with MSVU’s successful and innovative Aboriginal Academic Access to Post-Secondary (AAAPs) program, which is offered in partnership with the Mi’kmaw Native Friendship Centre.

Position Requirements
• Applicants must have a university degree, with a preference for an advanced degree (Masters or Doctoral level). MSVU respects Indigenous ways of knowing and research, such as, but not limited to, being a Knowledge Sharer and/or Respected Elder within an Indigenous community and will consider these as part of a holistic review of each candidate’s qualifications.
• Direct connections and relationships with Indigenous communities, specifically Mi’kmawcommunities, is critical to this position. This is a designated position open only to applicants who are Indigenous, with preference given to Mi’kmaw applicants. The successful candidate will be required to provide confirmation of Indigenous identity.

The successful candidate must have:

• Three to five years of lived experience working in the Mi’kmaw/Indigenous tourism industry or in a leadership role in Mi’kmaw/Indigenous communities
• Recent and relevant experience working directly with Mi’kmaw/Indigenous communities
• Have a strong working knowledge of the Indigenous tourism industry in the Atlantic Region, Nationally, and Internationally

Workload for the role includes teaching, scholarly research, and collegial service. Salary and benefits are as per the Collective Agreement between the Mount Saint Vincent University Faculty Association and Mount Saint Vincent University. Successful candidates will be required to teach in-person, on campus as part of their annual workload.

• Copies of, or links to, up to three recent tourism contributions. Examples could include community plans, presentations, papers, research, art, and so forth. Demonstrations of other contributions to Indigenous knowledge and understanding are welcome
• A statement of current and future teaching, professional, and research interests
• A statement outlining their personal and professional connections to L’nu or other First Nations, Inuit, or Métis communities
